History of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar

The history of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar dates back to ancient times when it was part of the Indus Valley Civilization. Later, it became a part of the Sikh Empire under Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s rule. However, the modern development of the city began in the late 20th century when it was planned as an extension of Chandigarh, the capital city of Punjab and Haryana. The district SAS Nagar is named before its district headquarters, the town SAS Nagar, also known as Mohali. The town SAS Nagar has been named after the name of Sahibzada Ajit Singh elder son of Sh. Guru Gobind Singh Ji, 10th Guru of Sikh religion. The District came into existence on 13th April, 2006
